Regional Ayurveda Research Institute, Sri Vijaya Puram (formerly Port Blair) is a peripheral institute under Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences, Ministry of AYUSH, Govt. of India, New Delhi functioning at Chakkargaon, Sri Vijaya Puram, Andaman and Nicobar Islands. At present this unit is undertaking, coordinating, aiding and promoting research in Ayurvedic science with special emphasis on Tribal Health Care Research. The institute was initially established as ATHCRP (Ayurveda Tribal Health Care Research Project) at Malacca Village of Car Nicobar Island on February 14, 1984 by the Central Council for Research in Ayurveda and Siddha, Department of AYUSH, Ministry of Health & Family welfare, Govt. of India, New Delhi. In the year 2016, CCRAS, New Delhi has re-designated this project i.e. Ayurveda Tribal Health Care Research Project into Regional Research Centre of Ayurveda, Port Blair. From April, 2017 onwards the institute started functioning in 4 Nos. Type-II Quarters allotted by Andaman administration on temporary basis at Chakkargaon, Port Blair. The unit was upgraded into Regional Ayurveda Research Institute (RARI), Port Blair in December 2020. Currently RARI, Sri Vijaya Puram is dedicated to advancing the field of Ayurveda through rigorous research and innovative practices. The institute has been working on the aspects of Tribal Health Care, Clinical Research, Literary Research, Medico-Ethno Botanical Survey and Medicinal Plant research since inception.

Dr. P.P. Pradeep Kumar currently serves as Research Officer-in-Charge at the Regional Ayurveda Research Institute (RARI), Sri Vijaya Puram (formerly Port Blair), a peripheral institute of the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS), Ministry of AYUSH, Government of India. RARI, Sri Vijaya Puram is dedicated to advancing Ayurveda through clinical and field-based research with a special focus on tribal health care, medico-ethno botanical documentation, and medicinal plant research in the unique ecosystem of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
After completing B.A.M.S. from Ayurveda College, Coimbatore (2008) and M.S. (Ayurveda – Prasuti & Streeroga) from Government Ayurveda College, Thiruvananthapuram (2012), he began his academic career as Assistant Professor at Ahalia Ayurveda Medical College, Palakkad (2012–2017). He subsequently joined CCRAS as Research Officer (Ayurveda) at the Central Ayurveda Research Institute (CARI), Bhubaneswar in 2017 and thereafter served at the National Ayurveda Research Institute for Panchakarma (NARIP), Cheruthuruthy, where he was involved in clinical, fundamental, and Panchakarma-based research till December 2025.
At RARI, Sri Vijaya Puram, Dr Pradeep Kumar is engaged in planning and implementing intramural and collaborative research with an emphasis on tribal and community health, non-communicable diseases, and prakriti-based risk profiling. He is Co-Investigator in IMR Metabolic Project entitled “a cross-sectional study assessing the prevalence of metabolic syndrome and its association with prakriti and NCD risk factors in the adult population of South Andaman district”. as well as in the “Tribal Healthcare Research Programme (2025–26)”, which aligns with the institute’s mandate of tribal health care research and medico-ethno-botanical survey in the Andaman & Nicobar region.
His primary research interests include fundamental Ayurvedic research and clinical research on Panchakarma in gynaecology, infertility, and neurology, integrating classical Ayurvedic principles with contemporary clinical methodologies. Over the years, he has contributed to multicentric studies on clinical practice guidelines, standard operating procedures for Panchakarma, and evaluation of Ayurvedic interventions in chronic and lifestyle-related disorders, in line with CCRAS’s mission to generate evidence for Ayurveda in priority health areas.
Dr. Pradeep Kumar has authored 18 research papers in peer-reviewed, UGC-listed, and other reputed journals, covering Ayurveda, Panchakarma, and clinical research, reflecting his consistent academic engagement and contribution to evidence-based Ayurveda. In his role at RARI, Sri Vijaya Puram is also involved in institutional clinical services and administrative responsibilities, as part of the institute’s efforts to deliver quality Ayurveda-based healthcare and research to the tribal and general populations of the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
